I’m On Patreon! (Also, a FREE Short Story!)

My blogging/announcements schedule has been derailed somewhat by internet outages this week, but I’m trying to get back on track now. A couple of the things I was going to post about this weekend will have to wait a day or so. For now, however, I’m happy to announce the launch of my shiny new Patreon page!

So why am I on Patreon, and what exactly will I be doing there? I’ve been planning this for a long time, but it took a while for me to figure out exactly how I wanted to go about it. I didn’t want to promise a whole bunch of rewards that I wouldn’t able to deliver on without taking time away from my book-writing. Thus, I decided to keep things very simple.

I’ve only got one tier of rewards on my Patreon. Basically, if you pledge $1 per month, you get a monthly short story (and access to whatever stories I’ve already published, at no additional cost). That’s all I’m offering for now. You can pledge more than $1 per month if you want, but there’s no reason why you have to, and I’m not actually encouraging that right now. I may add rewards for higher pledges down the line, but for now I’m satisfied with this system.

The short stories will all be set in the Beaumont and Beasley world. They might revolve around any characters and be set in any time period. I’ll try to surprise you every month in one way or another. The average story length will be between 4,000 and 5,000 words.

The first of these short stories is available for free to give you a taste of what you’ll be getting if you make a pledge. You can download it from Patreon here, or read it on Wattpad here. It’s called “The Replacements,” and it’s set not too long after the ending of The Tomb of the Sea Witch. Here’s a little synopsis:

The Fang and Claw Pub is accustomed to unusual visitors. After all, its clientele is mostly made up of monsters and magical creatures, who come there to escape from a world where they are forced to keep their true appearances hidden. However, the pub’s management does draw the line at ghosts. They’re bad for business. And the one moaning and wailing upstairs simply has to go.

Fortunately, there are people to handle things like that. Namely, Beaumont and Beasley, celebrated investigators of the strange and the supernatural.

But it’s not the Beaumont and Beasley you might have expected…

You can read more about this new element of my author platform on my Patreon page. Thanks for checking it out! I have a couple more announcements coming up on the blog this week, so stay tuned!

Also, we had wondered if Crispin could look like a Nick so that was fantastic to see a speculation be a reality!! 😀 Only I wonder what Nick would have said if he’d seen him. XD

Best wishes for you on Patreon! I’m a broke little gal so I can’t help you there, but I hope you do well!! 🙂

Excited for the next Horseman installment as well. All the yummy things!

Thanks so much! I’m very happy to hear you liked the story. And yes, that would have been a good moment…maybe I can work Nick’s reaction to Crispin’s imitation in somewhere else. XD Don’t worry about the Patreon, I completely understand. These stories will eventually be collected into anthologies on Amazon for everybody anyway, and I’ll still put a free one on Wattpad from time to time. The next Horseman chapter is all ready to go up tomorrow; I hope you enjoy it! 😀

ALSKDJF;LSKJDLF I LOVED THIS SHORT STORY! I mean, it makes me need The Mirror of Rorrim YESTERDAY because it made me realize how stinkin’ much I miss Crispin and Nick and Cordelia and Molly AND I NEED THEM AAAHH. But yes. I really enjoyed it! 😀 So fun! I could totally get used to lots of short stories in this world. XD BUT BUT CRISPIN IS ADORABLE AND WONDERFUL. And Molly is precious. And Nick and Cordelia are Nick and Cordelia. <3 AND OH MY WORD, CRISPIN ACTUALLY INITIATED AN ACTUAL GROUP HUG. Basically I love it and thanks for sharing. 😀 *pines away for Mirror of Rorrim because I MISS THEMMM* <3

Also, your Patreon page is hugely entertaining. XD Best wishes on that! *someday I will be rich and support all my fave authors and it will be brilliant and in the meantime I support you with copious fangirling because I love Crispin and Nick and co.*

LOL, no problem! Glad you like the page! 😀 And I’m thrilled you enjoyed the short story as well. It was an interesting experience to write; I wasn’t sure how people would receive it, but I knew I wanted to explore Crispin and Molly in more detail outside of Nick’s perspective. Plus, I felt kind of sorry for Molly because she spent most of “Tomb” being *SPOILER WARNING in case anybody else is reading this comment* possessed. XD This story helped me to flesh out some of her unique character traits. I see her as slightly agoraphobic. 😀

Great story! I wish you prolific patronage. Unfortunately, I have a rule to *slightly* control my Kindle budget: no paying for single short stories — especially SHORT shorts, less than c. 33 pages (i.e. 3¢/page). So I guess I’ll have to wait till they’re collected. 🙁

I understand! 😄 It’s no problem. I try to set boundaries for my Kindle spending as well, but usually fail, so I admire your restraint. 😂 I may be tweaking the length and/or number of stories per month in time, so perhaps it will be more worth your money in the future. I’m just experimenting with the platform right now to see what kind of response I get.
