Today, I’m very excited to be participating in the cover reveal for E.B. Dawson’s new book, Under the Skin! This is the third novel in her Creation of Jack science fiction series, and will be released on June 23.
IT’S SO COOL. I can’t wait to read this. Here’s the synopsis:
After narrowly avoiding catastrophe on the world’s first space colony, humanity struggles to redefine itself. Logan, Druce, and the crew try to remain neutral. But tensions are mounting, and when Logan gets separated from the others, they will have to decide where their loyalties lie. As Logan’s longtime battle with her own identity comes to a head, she will find the fate of humanity lies in the balance.
And here’s an exclusive snippet from the novel!
Two hours later, Druce found himself chasing after a scrawny teenager with long, greasy hair, wondering if Logan hadn’t gotten the better end of the bargain. But the kid’s luck ran out when he made a left turn that led to a barb wire fence. He leapt onto it ambitiously, but couldn’t get out of Druce’s reach fast enough. It didn’t take much effort to haul him to the ground, the kid was surprisingly light.
“What’s your problem, man? I ain’t done nothing!”
“Yeah, you sure smell like you ain’t done nothing. Your eyes look like it, too. And I’ll bet when my associate digs that package out of the gutter where you tossed it, she won’t find a pound of illegal narcotics.”
Behind them, Stevens rounded the corner, panting. She spoke into her radio, giving their location to the rest of the team.
The kid’s focus remained on Druce. “Man, why you gotta be like that? Times are tough. Everyone’s got their favorite poison to make it a little easier,” the kid’s expression changed, “Matter of fact, I bet I could get my hands on yours if you tell me what it is.”
“Kind of you to offer, but I got something else in mind. You know Petros?”
“Never heard of it.” The kid was pacing restlessly, but his voice was even. Practiced.
“Hmm. I got eyewitnesses says you have.”
“You ever figure people’ll say anything to get you off their back?” The kid taunted.
“So far you’re not doing such a good job of telling me what I want to hear. I already have enough to get you locked up for 10-15. And let me tell you something, I stay angry for a long time. Whenever I do find Petros headquarters, and I will, it won’t be hard to let them know who gave them away. And when your jail time is reduced, they’ll believe me.”
“I guess you know how to play this game,” the kid said sulkily. “But I’m gonna need some positive motivation here.”
“That’s easy. You talk now, and this conversation never happened.”
“How do I know you’ll keep your word on that?”
“I got bigger fish to fry, kid. And you don’t have much of a choice.”
“Fine, I’ll give you an address.”
Druce grabbed the kid’s collar, “No, you’ll take us to the address.” He hauled him to the car that had just pulled to the curb behind them and helped him inside.
“You sure you never been a cop?” Stevens asked Druce with a hint of disgust. “You play the part a little bit too well.
“You been on the wrong side of the law, Stevens?” Druce teased.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” she shot back.
They climbed in the vehicle and it sped off.
